When you apply for finance, we first carry out a soft search, whereby we match your lending profile with the most appropriate of our partner lenders and find you the best option available. A soft search does not affect your credit score or your ability to access credit in any way. Essentially, this is a background check on your financial history, as well as your current financial situation, and this search can only be seen by you on your credit report.
Once we have completed a soft search and are assured that you meet the requirements from some or all of our partner lenders, we will then connect you with that partner lender and share your details with them. The partner lender will perform a full credit search, which is different to the soft search, and is noted on your credit history and can affect your credit profile, as well as your ability to gain credit in the future.
While this can be concerning, there is no need to worry. The soft search we carry out, combined with our years of experience helping people gain credit, means that we have a very good success rate.
There are websites out there that allow you to find out what your credit score is, whether it is healthy, and give you helpful advice on how you can manage and improve it.
